Crossing the streets of Los Angeles with a gangster, eating from bins with a homeless guy in Prague. It is a new hype in tourism; reality-tourism.
I am not talking about normal tour guides, the one you will recognize by her umbrella, or the earplugs you will have to wear to translate what she is saying. I am talking about slum tourism. The guides I am talking about are homeless people. The guides can tell everything about the neighbourhood and the way they have lived there for years. He will probably show you the bridges under which he has slept and the places where he normally looks for food. You can ask them al kinds of questions, they don’t care and are not ashamed to answer intimate questions. It are not only homeless people, you can also do a tour with a former member of a gang. They will show places were fights or shootings have taken place.
The city from another point of view; Slum tourism

Silencio is the name of a new Parisian nightclub whose interiors were designed by zany polymath and David Lynch. The design of the club is inspired by a nightclub featured in a film of Lynch. In this club creative people can meet, watch movies, performances and concerts.
When you are entering the club you must descend the six flights of stairs to Silencio before you realize a transformation is afoot. Once you are inside, you can browse in the art library and smoke in the ‘dream forest’ while standing at the ‘Buddhist cocktail bars with their own bijoux cinemas’. This place is enchanting, one minute you are in the dark, the next you are in a golden tunnel of mini-mandalas.
Lynch said: ”Silencio is something dear to me. I wanted to create an intimate space where all the arts could come together. There won’t be a Warhol-like guru, but it will be open to celebrated artists of all disciplines to come here to programme or create what they want.”
Happy magic water cube

What it is:
The famous watercube of Beijing, were the Summer Olympics of 2008 took place is converted into a happy magic water park. After the olympics, the water cube didn’t have a real function. So the park was designed to bring renewed interest and draw more tourists to the often ghost town-like Olympic grounds. Inside the park you will experience an underwater wonderland with blue bubbles and floating jellyfishes. The pool has 10 different rides, a wave pool, a lazy river and much more. The architecture of the building is very helpful for the water park, because it has an incredible daylight interior and energy efficient design. The water cube is the second most visited building in Beijing after the great wall.
Why it’s cool:
This water park is related to the trend experience economy, because this is not a usual swimming pool. When you are in this water park, it is like you are in an underwater world. This park is also a really cool redesign, designed by Forrec.

El Kombo cookes nice Mexican food, they designed a cool package with a concept and shipped it to hungry people in Copenhagen with the delivery company Roomservice for a week. El kombo is not an usual delivery service. They related everything in the box to their concept, that’s what makes it very interesting. The main reason of their packages was that they wanted to bring their customers an experience. The five core values of their concept were: delicious, humour, interaction, suprise and it had to be visually attractive.
I will now give you a description of the box. On the top of the box there was a syringe filled with green Jalapenos oil. You had to push the oil into the meal before seeing it. On the box you can see the terms bo wich means moderado and lasse wich means intenso. The second thing you have to do is to pull a string. Pulling the string created a little explosion inside the box. This ‘bang’ is related to the fact that Mexicans shoot up in the air before they eat. Now it’s time to open the box. The meal was ready to eat. Inside the box you found a intese chicken mole that was stored in a can. You could also see three garnishes: fresh salsa in the red capsicum, limejuice to squeeze and a rolled up corn-tortilla. You could also find a fresh corona and banana bread in the bottom of the box.
I think this concept will work very well because they integrate storytelling, wich is an important thing. They also related al the things back to their concept. And of course this concept is related to experience economy.
Le Whaf

What is it:
A scientist of Harvard invented a machine that allows people to inhale food vapors. The device is designed by David Edwards and is called Le Whaf. Le Whaf makes a vapor of all kinds of food. Whiffers, the so-called users of this bowl, have to use a glass straw to inhale the vapors. A session of 10 minutes will give 200 calories, you also can taste alcohol, but this time without being drunk!
Why it’s cool:
Having the taste of food, but not eating it is a whole new experience. This is also a very good invention for people who are on a diet, those people can still taste the flavour of their favorite food, but aren’t gaining weight.

What it is:
My auntie’s cakes is a place in Amsterdam where you can drink a cup of coffee and get all sorts of cakes. When you enter this place it feels like you are walking into an exploded birhtday party of a 8-year-old girl. There is a lot of pink and flowers in here. You can not only get princesscake, but you can also just get a piece of apple pie, if you are not that experimental. My auntie’s cake does not only have a konditorei, but it also has a bed and breakfast called: cake under my pillow and a television programme called de taarten van abel, very cool, I still watch this program.
Why it’s cool:
You really get the feeling that you are in an other world, with al those decorations and colours. It’s feels like you are at someone’s home. You can also celebrate your birthday here and it still feels like it is just as cosy or more as home. This is a very good thought concept. Go to my auntie’s cake and see it yourself!
Coolhunt #3.2 Experience economy: Lodekka

What it is:
Lodekka is a double-decker bus located in Portland, Oregon. Erin Sutherland found the bus and renovated it with friends. She transformed the bus into a vintage clothing shop. You can find a lot of vintage clothes there, but not only clothes, you can also find old books and other things.
Why it is cool:
I like the idea of the old bus, it is a very good decor for the vintage clothing. It is also very smart how she managed to put al the clothes in such a small space and make a whole little shop of it. It is a real experience to shop in a bus, and every clothing piece you find over there has his own story, because Sutherland spend half of her week shopping for clothes.
